There are over a hundred different flood myths from all over the world. These myths, such as the story of Noah from the Bible and the story of Manu from India's Rig Veda, all tell a similar story. These stories say that there was a great flood and that someone gathered the plants and animals to be saved. These myths also say that once the water had receded, that these people then repopulated the Earth. I find these stories to be very interesting because at the end of the last ice age, huge ice dams held back melted lakes as big as the Hudson Bay, and when those dams broke, the water rushed across the continents, destroying everything in their path. This happened over most of the world on the continents of North America, Europe, and Asia. When this happened, the sea level would have risen significantly and there would have been earthquakes and huge storms, such as hurricanes. It sounds to me, based on what researchers and archeologists have found that these flood myths are based on real floods. These floods took place ten thousand years ago at the end of the last ice age and now cities and sites being found in the oceans around the world and are dated to that time period because this was the last time when those pieces of land were above sea level.
Researchers have found sites and cities off the coasts of India, Japan, and in the Persian Gulf. They have also found sites and cities off the coasts of Egypt, Malta, and off the coast of Cuba where they found a city with pyramids. With these findings and the discovery of Gobekli Tepi, and the question of the Sphinx's age it is my opinion that there is a missing epoch from our distant past that we are now just beginning to discover, once thought as folklore and
myths are now becoming fact.
It is my opinion that there could have once been a civilization called Atlantis. I don't think it was a continent that disappeared in a night as Plato wrote in his story. I believe it was a lost civilization from our past that was destroyed by floods at the end of the last ice age and its knowledge was passed down and remembered by the ancient Egyptians. I think what Plato was talking about what was the civilization of the Minoans that lived mainly on the Island of Santorini (Thera) and Crete from 3000B.C. to 1,100 B.C. Plato states that the Greeks and Atlantians fought each other and that doesn't fit the timeline for Atlantis, but it does fit for the Minoans. What I think he was talking about in his story was the Minoan civilization that was destroyed by the eruption of the volcano on the island of Santorini (Thera) and destroyed most of thier civilization in a night. I think Plato mixed the story of Atlantis with the story of the Minoans either on purpose to tell a good story, or by accident because he was confused or didn’t have the correct information, or it was lost in translation from Egyptian to Greek. I think what we know of the as the story of Atlantis is two separate stories mixed together. Plato got his information from Solon a relative of his. The priest in Egypt told Solon when he had travelled there that there was once a great advanced civilization that was destroyed nine thousand years ago before Plato's time. Now the Minoans were a great civilization during their time period, but not an advanced civilization that the Egyptian priest described to Solon, because the Minoans were certainly not more advanced than the Egyptians of their contemporary time period.
